By sheer coincidence today we watched Grave of the Fireflies in class just after hearing of Isao Takahata’s passing. An incredible film from an absolute giant of animation. #studioghibli #isaotakahata
I manage to go 32 years without having any element of Murder on the Orient Express spoiled for me. And just as well because that ending is dumb. A surprise, yes, but a dumb surprise.
‪Watched Larissa Behrendt’s After the Apology this morning at AFTRS and it absolutely destroyed me. It is a must see for Australians. ‬
Ali’s Wedding (2016) is a unique, heartfelt romantic comedy set in a Muslim community in Melbourne. The best Australian comedy in years and definitely worth tracking down.
3 Idiots (2009). 170mins sounds long for a comedy movie until you realise this is Bollywood so you’re actually getting four movies.
Rewatched @thebigsickmovie. Second time around even more impressed by Ray Romano’s performance. In this instance I am in agreement with everybody with regards to Raymond.
Rewatched The Watchmen (Zach Snyder, 2009) after meaning to give it another look for some time. Cool visuals but it’s a bit messy because there are just so much there. Would make a great HBO series.
The Cave of Forgotten Dreams(Werner Herzog, 2009) is a great document of the 30,000 year old art in the Chauvet Cave, and is kind of mesmerising in 3D while also containing some classic Herzog nonsensical philosophising.
Ida (Pawel Pawlikowski, 2013). Absolutely stunning cinematography. Beautiful compositions.
